I included a fun video of Ted learning to roll over, but today, let’s dive into why I chose to offer all-inclusive training packages.
Why All-Inclusive?
From a trainer’s perspective, not a sales pitch, I prefer to be the project manager. With hourly, a la carte sessions, the pet owner becomes the manager, responsible for training frequency and progression. But with all-inclusive packages, I can lead the entire process. I bring the knowledge, create the plan, and guide the training from start to finish. When I’m hourly, I’m more of a consultant, providing advice and tips. But knowledge and words are cheap—it’s outcomes that matter.
When people simply want advice, it’s easy to recommend books, resources, and general tips. But achieving real results requires consistent effort and a solid commitment. That’s where the true value of all-inclusive training comes in.
Commitment to Outcomes
The all-inclusive package takes on the risk and effort for the whole training process. Whether it takes one month or six, we’re there every step of the way, fully committed to the outcome.
Daily Training and Care
We do day training. That means showing up every day, providing mid-day breaks (or whatever timing works best), potty breaks, water refills, and even changing pee pads. Our focus is calm, well-adjusted pups, especially in busy areas like downtown Houston. And we’re good at it! Daily stimulation and manners training help pups adjust to their environments while developing essential skills.
We also record brief daily training segments and share them with the family, encouraging you to schedule sessions with us as often as possible. Sometimes we join you on a regular walk to observe and discuss the pup’s progress, keeping everyone aligned.
Training & Coaching Together
We don’t separate training from coaching. We bridge the gap between pups and their humans, speaking both “languages” to help everyone communicate better. In the beginning, we focus on training and providing daily stimulation. Over time, we coach you to take the lead. We work together to create lifelong skills, establishing new routines and adjusting behaviors for long-term success. Eventually, we fade out so that you have everything you need to continue on your own.
Tailored, Outcome-Driven Training
Our training isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach. Each pup has a unique path, and we adapt our plans based on your needs, not pre-fabricated formats. We focus on the journey rather than just the destination, building a strong, collaborative relationship that puts your pup at the center of everything.
In short, we work in packages to provide true outcomes. We’re the project managers and see the process through, showing up every day, training dogs, and coaching you. Our goal is for you to have the best possible relationship with your pup, and we’re here to help you get there.
I’ll post more about our approach soon—feedback, questions, and suggestions are welcome. Let’s discuss!

Our Philosophy:
We’ve invited another species to live in our homes, and our dogs are much more than accessories; they’re our guests. They don’t speak our language, and like in the movie E.T., we don’t want to be the intimidating figures trying to coerce a scared, confused being. Instead, we want to be like ...
Eye Contact, Eye Contact, Eye Contact!
Reward every glance. Start by reinforcing brief glances, then encourage your pup to hold your gaze a bit longer. Gradually phase out your part of the eye contact—your pup will learn to watch you and adapt to your movements naturally. This approach helps them learn to walk with you without relying on leash cues.
Remember, the leash is purely for safety—not for communication.
Take a look at this video with Meghan and Buckee. Buckee is watching Meghan closely, and she rewards him by making eye contact, smiling, and offering treats. Meghan also looks forward occasionally, teaching Buckee to walk with her in sync.
Notice that Buckee is a reactive pup, so the leash is essential for safety, especially if he responds to something unexpectedly. However, it’s only used for physical control when necessary. When Buckee refocuses, Meghan reestablishes instructional control, and they continue their walk together. She does a fantastic job of engaging with him! In ...
Loose-Leash Walking Tip:
Where you reward makes a big difference! Try using the hand on the same side as your dog when giving treats or praise.
When you reach across your body to reward with the opposite hand, it draws your dog’s nose in front of you, encouraging them to move ahead and potentially start pulling.
In the video of Meghan and Domino, Meghan holds the leash with her left hand while Domino walks on her right. She rewards him by petting and giving treats with her right hand. This keeps Domino walking by her side on a loose leash, rather than in front, pulling her along.
Next time you’re out walking with your pup, try rewarding with the hand on the same side as your dog.

How to teach you pup to be a good dining companion! What a great skill!

This is about counter-surfers, but I love the description of trying to shame dogs. This author, Pat Miller helped me understand this concept in her book the Power of Positive Dog Training.
If you’re still on Twitter, the Whole Dog Journal is a great group to follow. Lots of fantastic info!
